Rags to Riches by Marion Altieri

N.B.: Hey, readers: I'm delighted to report that I wrote this prior to Rags to Riches' breathtaking win in the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on May 4th.
I told you so.

By the time you read this, Rags to Riches may have proven herself to be a monster of a Thoroughbred. She may have won the Kentucky Oaks on Friday the 4th, and shown the racing world that she's a force with whom to reckon. After Friday, she may be on her way into the Racing Hall of Fame.
She's raced only four times in her young life, including three races this year—but already turf writers are running out of ink and superlatives to describe the big, beautiful filly.
Foaled at Skara Glen Farm in Kentucky and owned by Michael Tabor, Rags to Riches is fabulously well-muscled, quick-of-foot, agile and very, very smart. If you haven't yet seen Rags to Riches race, prepare yourself: this filly will take your breath away. Watching Rags to Riches race is akin to having a front-row seat for the second day of Creation: you're sure that no one else is around to see what's transpiring, because you share an intimacy with the Being out on the dancefloor. Her races are that impressive, that she crawls right into your heart while you're not looking.
Rags to Riches. Remember that name: you're going to hear a lot more of it in the very near future… |
